FOUR
Always first to hide the gun—one.
Always next to get a clue—two.
Always third to get to me—three.
Always hesitant to beg for more.
Always first to get the fun to wander where egos are.
Always last to note the past is only slightly vast and
Always busting out material questions,
Asking where are you going.
Saying yes without knowing.
Asking for more.
In this light, it is very quick to see
All of nature breathing deep and heavily
Far from the coast of the fireflies and piney air,
Far from people, far from home, your new awareness
Springs to life in all of several dimensions,
Makes you ponder all infinite directions,
And if it is not a certain possibility
Somewhere out there someone watches over you and me.

MERMAID WEATHER
Diggin myself in the rock,
I’m not affected if I don’t climb.
Gotta be first to the pool,
Gotta rid the traces from my spine.
How can you feel so old and feel so unsure?
Stand at the top of your throne and watch the Earth mature.
Honey I’m sorry if I trip and come away with a tan.
But I’ve been at it again.
Diggin’ myself in the rock,
I’m only certain if I don’t stare.
Tilted a bit to the right,
pulled out the fibers from my hair.
Distance a bit from the scene, make it a painting if you can.
Tell ‘em you think we can change, it doesn’t matter that we can’t.
Mermaid weather
Mermaid weather
Honey I’m sorry if I trip and come away with a tan.
But I’ve been at it again.
Diggin’ myself in the rock,
It doesn’t matter that I don’t care.
Telling the game to his face
I think the rules are unfair.

ACID HIGHWAY
Arrive, arrive,
Slide, arise, pull, fry.
Anything can happen at the sea.
(Oh, it happened to me)
It’s better than a harvest life, a home.
It’s perfect as a robin’s nest in a farm.
A wormhole to a different kind of love.
An island where the people that you know
And all the people you miss,
Like in some distant dream,
Half a gem, half a nightmare,
Return again fishing for kicks.
And you’re feeling like another kind of being.
Arrive, arrive.
When you think about the scheme of it all (when you think)
Do you feel especially small? (do you feel?)
Out on the highway there’s an ocean to fall into (there’s an ocean).

COLOURVISION
Took you 20 years of adaptations
To find the method that made you proud.
But by that point there’d been too much persuasion.
Yeah, we’d already felt around.
But in my head I tell a different version,
Makes it easier to be loud:
In my bed there was an awful person.
It was savage and unprofound.
I admit that I’m an awful person,
But here’s to mountains before they’re valleys.
It was a candid sort of composition,
That took me dangerously close to bowing out.
Ooh ooh ooh me!
I had a nebula playground
And saw you twinkling around
The new me.
And if a force so great and such a vision,
And if a force so cruel with such precision,
Could bow out, I’d do me!
You don’t always have to be so distant.
You don’t always have to be the victim,
You don’t always have to be a person
You don’t always have to be existing.
You don’t always have to be productive.
You don’t always have to be elusive.
You don’t always have to be da-dic-deh.
You don’t always have to be nonfiction.
I admit that I’m an awful person.
I’d admit that I’m an awful person
If you would too.

Melting Sun

Better run and play with the other kids.
Never got a taste of what normal’s like.
Sat and tore the grass like the others did,
But with a hand in the sand it was never right.
Never said it was a dream, but now I’m certain.
Made a name for yourself and your friends, right?
—Stephanie at the sea, Jack at the circus.—
Stick a hand in the sand tonight.
Different people in different places trying to hold it together
Beautiful people with beautiful faces meaning the world to each other
Never thought there was rock or thunder at the place by the sea,
But they did say there’d be
Melting sun
Did up with matted curls,
Shook a hand with the sand, met with the world.
Said all I want is the ocean,
I can make it work with a perk in the motion.
My penny-press makes the sunlight,
And Penny’s dress makes the sun bright.
Never thought there was rock or thunder at the place by the sea,
But they did say there’d be
Melting sun
Melting sun
Didn’t you think it was perfectly done?
